James Avery
Small Chased Botonnee Cross

The Small Chased Botonnee Cross is 7/8" long. The word "botonnee" is taken from the French word for "botany," the science of studying plants. This style of cross is also known as the Cross Bourbonee, the Cross Trefflee or the Budded Cross. It is a very beautiful form of heraldic design that was either of Greek or Latin origin. The Botonnee Cross is characterized by its arms that end in a trefoil, a design symbolic of the Holy Trinity: God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Once it was commonly seen in a coat-of-arms, stamped on the covers of hymnals, or carved in corner stones. However, it is now widely used strictly where a decorative form of the cross is desired.

This piece is laser engravable only.
